Digital Asset: A digital media file, distinct from a Work. In the cultural heritage field, Digital Assets are usually faithful digitizations of Works.
Digital Signature: A cryptographic mechanism used to ensure the authenticity and integrity of data.
End User: An individual or entity that accesses and uses the CommonsDB system, typically through the Public User Interface.
Ingestion Engine: The component of CommonsDB that processes and integrates data from a Data Supplier.
ISCC: International Standard Content Code, a unique identifier for content, generated by the ISCC Generator.
ISCC Foundation: An independent nonprofit organization that promotes information technologies for the purpose of the common good.
ISCC Generator: A microservice for generating ISCCs for Digital Assets, for the purpose of content identification and tracking.
ISCC Metadata: JSON Schema for ISCC Metadata.
ISCC Software Development Kit: A Python development kit for creating and managing ISCCs.
Liccium Engine: A rights management platform that provides creators and rights holders with tools to digitally sign and protect creative works.
License: A machine-readable Rights Statement indicating the copyright and re-use status of a Work.
Metadata API: The API that provides access to the Metadata Storage.
Metadata Storage: Stores full Declaration metadata and other content-related information provided by Data Suppliers.
OCSSPs: Online Content Sharing Service Providers. Platforms covered by Article 17 of the CDSM Directive, such as social media platforms.
Open Definition: A definition of "open" content managed by The Open Knowledge Foundation. Often used as a criterion for determining which rights statements and licenses should be considered "open".
Public Domain Mark: A Rights Statement allowing entities to communicate that a Work is no longer restricted by copyright and can be freely used by others.
Public User Interface: The interface through which an End User interacts with the CommonsDB system.
Registry Synchronization: The process by which a Third Party maintains data consistency with the CommonsDB Registry.
Rights Metadata: Information about the rights status of a Work, provided by a Data Supplier as part of a Declaration.
Rights Statement: A machine-readable statement indicating the copyright and re-use status of a Work. Some rights statements take the form of a License.
Search API: The API that allows End Users and Third Parties to query the CommonsDB Registry.
Soft Binding: The association of rights information with a ISCC in a way that allows the information to be updated or changed without affecting the identifier itself.
TDM Opt-out: Information on whether a Data Supplier has granted permission for Text and Data Mining on a Work.
Third Party: An entity other than a Data Supplier or End User who integrates with the CommonsDB Registry and uses its services.
Vector Search: A method for similarity-based searches, specifically within CommonsDB for ISCCs.
Verifiable Credentials: Utilized for Digital Signature to ensure data integrity, verify the authenticity of a Data Supplier and attribute Declarations.
